Guidelines for the Helen Semple Bursary

Helen Semple, Reg.N. worked at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby, in the Operating Room. She was the ORNAHD Secretary from 1984 to 1986. She was diagnosed with cancer and died after a courageous battle. She was well respected by her colleagues. The ORNAHD bursary which was implemented in 1989, then became known as the Helen Semple Bursary.
- PURPOSE:
- To provide financial support for active members in good standing who are furthering their nursing education.
- TYPE OF AWARDS OFFERED:
- The grant of $2000.00 per annum, to be divided amongst the successful applicants.
- GUIDELINES:
- The amount of $500.00 will be awarded to a total of 4 successful candidates in any of the following categories:
- Part-time undergraduate student
- Full-time undergraduate student
- Masters degree programme
- RNFA Certificate programme
- The bursary is to be offered on a per annum basis, contingent on the organizational funds available, and to be decided by the ORNAHD Executive for the forthcoming year.
- CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO AWARD:
- Applicant must be an active ORNAHD member in good standing for at least the two previous, consecutive years and is expected to maintain active membership throughout the duration of the award year.
- Applicant must submit proof of completion of course(s) or partial completion of program.
- Applications must be postmarked prior to May 1st of each year to facilitate a decision at the May Executive meeting. Awards to be announced and made at the June General Meeting. Application forms are available in the ORNAHD binder and from executive members. The completed form is to be forwarded to the ORNAHD President elect.
